3rd Grade Expectations

Classroom rules for success

  • Listen carefully.
  • Follow directions.
  • Work quietly. DO not disturb others who are working.
  • Respect others. Be kind with your words and actions.
  • Respect school and personal property.
  • Work and play safely.

Discipline
Positive reinforcement is always used first, be it individual praise, group praise, class points, etc. However, students choosing not to follow the classroom rules will:

  1. Receive a verbal warning.
  2. Move his/her card to Warning and lose 5 min. of recess.
  3. Move card to yellow resulting in the loss of one recess.
  4. Move card to red resulting in the loss of two recesses and a phone call home.

Homework
Homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday. Students are encouraged to read on the weekends. Only under special circumstances would written homework be assigned on the weekends. Students should spend approximately 30-40 minutes nightly on home work. Homework assignments are turned in daily.

Assignments may vary but will generally consist of:

  • Monday: Spelling activity
  • Tuesday: Language Arts, Science, Social Studies or Religion
  • Wednesday: Math
  • Thursday: Spelling review activity

Your student will also be required to do 15 minutes of free choice reading every night. There will be a place on the homework calendar for you to initial that he/she has read. The signed homework calendar should be turned in along with Thursday night's homework on Friday morning.

Late or incomplete homework
Homework is to be completed at home. Late or incomplete homework will be finished on the bench at recess and will only receive partial credit.

Make-up work after absences
A student is responsible for making up class assignments and homework assignments that he/she missed during his/her absence.

Books
Your child has been assigned textbooks for the year. Any textbooks that come home must be covered. Students will be charged for lost or damaged books, including library books.
